A Day Out at Colne Valley Railway

Visit Colne Valley Railway for a day of fun and trains!

Colne Valley Railway have plenty of things to do within their attraction and here we have listed a few.

The Tierney Model Railway Shed

A huge (10m x 5m) 00-gauge layout, located beyond the signal box, was donated to the railway by the family of Mr John Tierney of Great Dunmow immediately after his death in 2007. It was promptly demolished and stored until the new building’s location was determined, planning approval was obtained, and new foundations were laid. During 2010, the Shed was restored and extended to allow for public access. On June 4th, 2010, the Model Railway was formally opened.

Woodland Walk

The Woodland Walk, which is adjacent to and accessible via the railway, is typically open from early May to the end of September, however it may be closed if the ground conditions are unsafe for visitors wearing conventional footwear. The tiny and not-so-little visitors can take a nature trail quiz.

Post Office Sorting Carriage

The Post Office Sorting Carriage is located next to platform 2 and is accessible to all of their visitors on a near-level (one tiny step) basis. Try your hand at sorting letters like the postmen did in the old days.

Station Shop

On all operative days, a large assortment of Thomas and Railway souvenirs, novels, jigsaws, and confectionary are available. There is also a tiny area of used books. The shop, which also serves as a ticket office, is located near the Site Entrance.
