John Tarleton founded Tarleton State University in 1899, and music has been a part of the university since that founding. For decades the Tarleton Chamber Choir has represented excellence in vocal performance. The Chamber Choir is comprised of students who hail from around the state of Texas and study a variety of subjects, from music to agricultural business to engineering. 

In past years Chamber Choir has toured abroad to Europe and Asia, including recent trips to Japan and China, and performed in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium. The Cross Timbers Civic Chorale, founded by Herb Teat in 1979, is an essential part of Tarleton’s musical family. Taking their places alongside Chamber Choir and University Singers, Stephenville community members of all ages come together each fall and spring to present masterworks in collaboration with guest musicians.
