Haddon’s novel, which was published in 2003, was a worldwide sensation. It’s about a youngster named Christopher Boone, who excels in math and science but struggles with other elements of life; although the author never says so, it’s widely assumed that Christopher is autistic. As Christopher discovers who attacked his neighbour’s dog Wellington – a journey that takes him far outside his neighbourhood and also helps him better understand his parents – the plot plays out like a mystery.
