The Joy of Plants has announced the launch of a ‘Houseplant Hideout’ in Shoreditch’s BoxPark, East London’s urban jungle. The Houseplant Hideout is ultimately designed to move consumers to a biophilic wonderland of Zen. Designed to banish autumn blues for the increasing number of Brits who have said they are dreading winter this year and to help bring nature into homes and home office spaces during the cold seasons.
The houseplant specialists have set out to deliver a lush, revitalising biophilic dreamworld to the heart of the concrete jungle, as Brits confess that one of the top things they’ve missed during lockdown is nature. The Houseplant Hideout is designed to transport guests to another planet by incorporating over 300 houseplants into a handcrafted 10m installation complete with spinning seats, gentle lighting, and a mindfulness audio meditation created by plant spirit specialist Holly Worton.
‘Houseplant Hideout,’ which opens to the public on October 7th at 10 a.m., enables visitors to lose themselves in a lush green forest bathing immersion where every feeling is stimulated by the mystical power of houseplants. Visitors will be taken into an interactive biophilic fantasy equipped with a six-metre vertical kaleidoscope upon entering this calm sanctuary, allowing them to be totally immersed in nature and capture a wonderful moment for the gramme. This event is meant to illustrate how easy it is to integrate the natural landscape into the internal landscape – just in time for winter – with terrarium gateways to peer through from the outside and a rich moss carpeting.
As part of their successful Thanks Plants campaign, Thejoyofplants.co.uk partnered with award-winning designer and architect DaeWha Kang to develop the hideaway – a monolithic landmark bringing biophilic concepts to life with a unique area for people to escape, contemplate, and recharge. With work taking over the safe places at home, need quietude, refuge, and moments of beauty and calm brought back into the home working spaces now more than ever to prevent a nature deficiency.
The houseplants inside have been carefully curated by renowned botanist James Wong, who chose varieties for their wellbeing and biophilic benefits, such as Strelitzia Nicolai’s, which help plants take in CO2 and harmful toxins while also releasing oxygen, and terrariums, which help boost concentration while working from home offices.
Holly Worton, a plant spirit specialist, has created a unique plant meditation that guests may try out during their visit to the installation and even listen to at home or during their lunch break. Plant communication has long been demonstrated to aid growth, but Holly takes it a step further. By developing a meditation that strengthens your connection to plants by assisting customers in relaxing, everyone is able to achieve levels of awareness that allow you to communicate with plants beyond people.
From the 7th to the 9th of October 2021, The Green at BOXPARK Shoreditch will be open to the public for free. Consumers will be able to arrange a 10- or 15-minute solo session at this location. Passers-by and houseplant aficionados will be able to enjoy the installation by peering through the many portals and seeing the hand-made terrariums by James Wong, discovering enchanting houseplant settings, and capturing inspiration and photos of this monument to the miracle of houseplants.
