London has long been a place where craft and creativity can thrive. The process of manufacturing things has linked London’s economy and culture for hundreds of years. Craft has the ability to shape everything from migration to social and political reform in unanticipated ways.
Today, skilled London craftsmen continue to be inspired by the city, creating remarkable products in materials ranging from porcelain to plastic. Every item in this exhibit has a unique storey to tell.
The exhibition London Making Now is the product of a contemporary collecting initiative that included pieces bought through the Art Fund’s ‘New Collecting Awards’ programme. These new acquisitions will provide a visually exciting glimpse into the world of craft and creation in contemporary London, revealing how makers have shaped, and are shaped by, our city.
