The first major exhibition of German Renaissance painter Albrecht Dürer in the United Kingdom in two decades.
This exhibition recounts Dürer’s journeys across Europe through paintings, drawings, prints, and letters, bringing the artist, as well as the people and places he saw, to life.
The exhibition will examine how Dürer’s travels to the Alps, Italy, Venice, and the Netherlands sparked an exchange of ideas with Netherlandish and Italian Renaissance artists, fueled his curiosity and creativity and increased his fame and influence across Europe.
‘Dürer’s Journeys’ will bring together loans from museums and private collections throughout the world, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington’s magnificent ‘Madonna and Child’ (c. 1496/1499), which has never been seen in the UK.
The National Gallery, in collaboration with the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum in Aachen, is hosting an exhibition.
