One Direction fans flood Madame Tussauds London inboxes in mad dash to own a piece of One Direction ‘History’

Fans of boyband group One Direction have bombarded Madame Tussauds with bids for the group’s wax models.

Harry Styles’ hair, Liam Payne’s waistcoat and Louis Tomlinson’s Converse are just some of the items die-hard One Direction fans have pleaded for post the band’s retirement from the attraction floor, as revealed today by Madame Tussauds London.

Worldwide Directioners from as far afield as New Zealand and Australia, have emailed and sent social media messages requesting everything from taking ownership of all five figures, to asking for just Harry’s head. Some fans have even inquired about owning individual body parts, including lips, limbs and little fingers of Harry, Liam, Zayn, Louis, and Niall’s figures. With many offering to pay delivery costs for the prize of having the One Direction boys placed in their bedroom.

One Direction have been firm favourites of Madame Tussauds London visitors since their arrival in 2013, however six years on from the band’s hiatus the figures have officially been retired to the Baker Street attraction’s archive where they will be kept for safekeeping. The move also makes way for the launch of an exciting new music zone, opening on 1st April.

Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London said: “Six years on from going their separate ways, the number of requests we’ve received from One Direction fans offering to take ownership of all, or part of, our One Direction figures now they’ve been retired shows what an impact they’ve made on their fans. One superfan even said they’d be willing to hire a private jet from Sydney to fly the figures out to them!“One Direction’s figures have been an important part of Madame Tussauds London for nine years and whilst we know some fans will be sad to no longer be able to visit the band’s figures, the time has come to bid them a fond farewell. This move is to make way for the exciting reimagining of our much-loved music zone which will allow guests to step into the spotlight themselves like never before.”
