How Well Do You Know Remembrance Day?
Armistice /ˈɑːmɪstɪs/ noun : An agreement made by opposing sides in a war to stop fighting for a certain time; a truce.
At 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918, the Armistice was signed, putting an end to the fighting in the First World War as a prelude to peace talks. We still observe Armistice Day with a Two-Minute Silence at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month across the United Kingdom.
On Remembrance Sunday, the closest Sunday to November 11th, the National Service of Remembrance is held at the Cenotaph in London. Senior members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty the Queen, as well as HM Government officials, attend the service, which normally includes a March Past with 10,000 veterans.
The 14th of November will be Remembrance Sunday this year.
