Go Behind The Scenes of the Wonder Under London this Easter

Take a deep dive of discovery this Easter school holidays with the launch of the SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s exclusive Behind the Scenes Tours.

From Saturday 2nd April, the iconic South Bank attraction is throwing open its doors to provide guests with an immersive look into what goes on behind the scenes of the wonder under London like never before.

Guests will be able to step into the shoes of the aquarium’s expert Aquarists to discover more about how the team cares for thousands of diverse species and ‘fin-tastic’ creatures.

The 30-minute tour runs every hour and will also provide an opportunity for guests to find out more about how the aquarium is run, its current breeding initiatives as well as SEA LIFE’s global conservation efforts to protect the world’s oceans and its amazing inhabitants from the threat of issues such as climate change.

Catherine Pritchard, General Manager at SEA LIFE London Aquarium, said: “If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to care for the amazing creatures here at the London Aquarium then now is your chance to join our expert aquarists for our new Behind the Scenes Tours. This is an experience like no other as you’ll be able to learn first-hand what it takes to ensure the smooth day to day running of our aquarium as well as get up close to some of our more unusual creatures. We can’t wait to welcome guests this Easter for a truly fin-tastic school holidays.”

SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s Behind the Scenes Tour is split into four parts – Life support, Babies and Breeding, Feeding and Meal Prep, Handling and Cleaning and Life Support.

1. Babies and Breeding

Guests can learn about what it takes to maintain the largest collection of jellyfish in the UK, the aquarium’s Ocean Invaders section, and learn about the aquarium’s jellyfish breeding programme and the challenges involved in breeding these creatures.

2. Feeding and Meal Prep

Feeding the hundreds of creatures that call SEA LIFE London Aquarium home is no mean feat! During this part of the tour, guests will be shown a video of the aquarists feeding some of the creatures whilst finding out what each animal eats, how the food is prepared and how the food is ethically sourced to encourage conservation.

3. Handling and Cleaning

Here, guests will see and learn what’s involved in cleaning both the creatures and tanks to ensure the aquarium and its inhabitants are always picture ready.

4. Life Support

Fans of video game, Fortnite, will be in their element as they’ll get to see adorable Axolotl’s in real life (not just a Fortnite skin) and learn all about these interesting creatures. During this part of the tour, guests will also learn how the aquarists mix the salt water before getting the chance to put into practice what they’ve learnt by testing it themselves.
