returns to Saatchi Gallery
The Saatchi Gallery will host the RHS Botanical Art & Photography Show in 2021. There will be around 200 botanical drawings and pictures on display. In 2021, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and Saatchi Gallery will collaborate to host the RHS Botanical Art and Photography Show. It will run concurrently with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in September and will showcase over 200 works of botanical art and garden photography by 34 international artists in a celebration of these technical art forms. The event will feature 15 painters’ complex and scientifically precise botanical drawings, as well as 19 photographers’ portfolio collections, all of which will vie for an RHS Medal – Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver, or Bronze. The RHS Botanical Art & Photography Display 2021 will be the first to be held at the Saatchi Gallery in London and will last two weeks, giving painters and photographers the opportunity to show their work to a larger audience. A variety of outreach programmes for schools and community groups, including painting, drawing, and print workshops, will accompany the exhibition in order to encourage a love of botanical art and study. Admission to this ticketed show is free for Saatchi Gallery Members and RHS Members. Laura C. Uccello, Director of Partnerships at Saatchi Gallery, “We are thrilled to partner with the RHS to present this internationally recognised exhibition that celebrates contemporary art with an incredibly interesting scientific scope. We are impressed with the high standard of works presented for the 2021 edition and we are delighted to share this unique presentation with our visitors and members this Autumn.” Charlotte Brooks, Art Curator at the RHS, said: “We are excited to showcase some of the world’s best botanical art and photography at the Saatchi Gallery and for thousands of art lovers and avid gardeners to be given the opportunity to see their favourite plants in a new light.” The exhibition complements the RHS Lindley Collections, which include over 30,000 botanical paintings dating back to the 1630s, as well as heritage photographs of gardens and people gardening, dating back to the 1860s. With the constant acquisition of Gold medal quality items, the floral art collection continues to develop. Botanical art and photography are used to document trends and discoveries of plants that are currently popular in UK gardens, with pieces accessible for viewing by appointment at the RHS throughout the year. The exhibitions on display are judged by a panel of recognised professionals, including prominent botanical painters, photographers, instructors, and botanists, who assess their correctness, talent, and aesthetic appeal. |
