Soho Theatre’s history dates back to its roots in the early 1970s as Soho Poly. A small but influential fringe theatre Soho Poly was radical and relevant, capturing the excitement and innovation of its time. After it venue closed in 1990, it went through several different incarnations before finding and opening our new home Soho Theatre in March 2000.
The theatre pursues creative excellence, harnessing the artistic spirit based on new writing roots, inclusivity and being welcome to all. The work takes many forms. Drawing on the radical ethos of the fringe and the traditions of punk culture and queer performance. Championing voices that challenge from outside of the mainstream, and sometimes from within it too.
