From Roman settlement to recent regeneration, the Museum of London Docklands offers visitors the chance to explore the history of London’s river, port and people in this 19th century quayside warehouse, and discover how the docks made the city we know today. Immerse yourself in the recreation of Victorian Sailortown, find out how the transatlantic slave and sugar trade shaped London, and learn how the port survived the Blitz and aided the war effort.
Plus, visit their free temporary exhibitions and displays including Feeding Black: Community, Power & Place, a new display exploring the central role food plays in Black enterprise and identity in South East London (opens 16 July 2021) and Havering Hoard: A Bronze Age Mystery, an exhibition which looks at the story behind the biggest Bronze Age discovery in London’s history (ends 22 Aug 2021). Entry to both is included with a free museum general admission ticket, which you can book in advance online.
Families can also book timed tickets for Mudlarks, their fun, interactive gallery that’s the ideal introduction to the docks, with soft play, games and all-new sections for younger children.
The museum is located on West India Quay, an historic dockside destination close to Canary Wharf, with a range of bars, restaurants and activities to enjoy – perfect for a day out at the docks.
